WHAT IS MEDITATION?
Meditation at the very core is the art of focusing the mind on mindfulness or on one object or on the breathing process. This helps to calm down the mind and relieve stress and tensions. It also helps to build the cerebral cortex of the brain that helps a person to focus on a task. Meditation is a very ancient practice that has been around for thousands of years.
The practice has been very well documented in the Indian Vedic books and has helped people reach enlightenment. There are several forms of meditation that have changed from place to place based on its origins. The simplest form of meditation is sitting on the floor with your knees folded and focusing on your breathing process for a prolonged period of time. There are also various positions and placements of your hands postures that are called as “ Mudras”. But for now, let’s focus on the basic form as mentioned above.

Meditation has been practiced for several thousand years in order to control one’s mind and emotions. It strengthens one’s ability to control emotions, focus on the task, think for prolonged periods of time, have an out-of-body experience, and give a deeper sense of wisdom. In modern-day society, people are regularly subjected to high levels of stress and workload. This causes many mental issues such as depression, loneliness, hyperstress, etc.

HOW TO MEDITTAE EFFECTIVELY:
You don’t require any kind of tools or equipment to practice mediation. Given below are tips to start meditation:
- Before you hop onto a meditation routine, make sure you find a suitable spot that you can access every day at a particular point of time.
- Make sure you set realistic expectations because average people have very sport span of focus and concentration. Aim for 10 to 15 minutes of un-interrupted period of mediation for your first week. You can slowly increase the time frame as you proceed into further weeks.
- Let your family know about your decision about starting a new routine and ask them to help you out following the routine by reminding you and disturbing you during your mediation period. They can also aid you by taking care of the work you did that period of time.
- Start with simply sitting on the floor with your legs folded like shown in the image below. Focus on your breathing and don’t Think of anything else., this might seem had for a beginner. If you are not comfortable sitting on the floor, sit straight on a chair and focus on your breath.
